and if your mind has come undone
then just find a setting sun
to throw some beams upon your face
but if the hill becomes a hole
evacuate your frazzled soul
and find relief in a different place
'cause if you linger for too long
it'll wear out like a favorite song
that's lost it's gleam from too much play
the sequin days are almost gone for good
and if your fire's dwindling
then just find some new kindling
to catch the spark and set it free
but if the smoke has grown too thick
for your lazy lungs
the sickness made it's mark
just try and breathe
so when the time has come to rest
and you settle in the west
this chapter's done, put it to sleep
the sequin days are almost gone for good

one percenters, race and gender,
acts of terror going viral over social networks
unveil the slogans, some say no guns,
some want control, and some arm themselves to the teeth
while up on high, the eagle eye plants lies
inside our minds with digital hoover blankets
the time has come to wake up from
your safe oblivion and see what's buried underneath
we spin webs of plans and debts
as our time's bought and sold
while they've got a million times what they need
laid out on platters of gold
and we've got struggles under the rug
just where they want them to stay
but there is change in the waves...
the revolution, mass confusion,
light the fuse and hope the outcome
is what you intended
from fear of fate, to greed and hate
and shame on those who cannot
comprehend an equal sign
throw up a fence,
intolerance or common sense?
I guess it's all a matter of perspective
I felt the Bern, now I feel the burn
of a world that's cursed by those
who never have to stand in line
we spin webs of plans and debts
as our time's bought and sold
while they've got a million times what they need
laid out on platters of gold
and we've got privilege, but we've got issues
and we've got something to say
the time has come to balance the scales...

Rivals

a master of never letting go
swimming just to fight the undertow
you've spent all your days against it
doing the opposite of what you're told
if they wear purple, you wear black and gold
using all your steam to spite them
but you say it doesn't matter either way
always rooting for the rivals of the home team
you say obedience demonstrates
lowest common denominators
in gridlock, heading to nowhere
recalcitrant for the sake
of a spirit you intend to break
you spread all the seeds, but you don't care
and it really doesn't matter either way
always rooting for the rivals of the home team
but when the crowds clear, all that's left
is a lack of common sense
if only you could pay the rent
with that penchant to be rude
and an entitled attitude
you'd be sovereign
always rooting for the rivals of the home team

No Place To Go

You've been working the angles
You've been punching the clock
You've been waiting for your train to come in... tick tock
You've been hiding in plain view
You've been cliché as fuck
You've been praying for the tide to change... good luck
When you gotta know the reasons
But they're just out of reach, it's a
(Dead end... Dead end)
When you're so fucking tired
That you can't even sleep, it's a
(Dead end... Dead end)
When they've got you in a corner
At the end of your rope, it's a
(Dead end... Dead end)
You've got no place to go
I've been working the angles
I've been punching the clock
I've been waiting for my train
to come in... tick tock
I've been one with the shadows
I've been hair of the dog
I've been searching for a higher power saying blah blah blah...
When the sharks are in the water
And I go overboard, it's a
(Dead end... Dead end)
When I know I shouldn't lie
But the truth is absurd, it's a
(Dead end... Dead end)
When I'm stoic but my mind
Is racing out of control, it's a
(Dead end... Dead end)
I've got no place to go
